What should I bring with me when I visit Mr Texas?

  • Wintertime (December - February) - Its typically 40-60°F recommended for layers clothing. It rarely gets ice or snow... or goes below freezing.

  • Springtime (March - May) - Weather is really improving, 60 - 80s by May. So layers, from jeans, to shorts, tees, sweatshirts...

  • Summer (June - Sep) - It varies, but if you like it hot, 80 - 100°F here on the gulf coast, were on an island with a steady breeze most days. Flip flops, shorts, tanks...

  • Fall ( Oct - Nov) - Great weather 60 - 80 typically super comfortable, layers, shorts in day, jeans at night.

  • At any time of year, any season, we can get strong gulf coast weather, day long thunderstorms, not just hurricane season, were an island so can get street flooding, here on our street and across the island... on those days, its best to stay put, call it a rain day, play games, enjoy tv, relax, and wait for the sun to come out and the flood waters to clear. Usually takes a 3-4 hours for the storm water system to clear the water from a bad all day event.

Where should I park my car?

  • We have limited parking in front of the building. Please leave the spaces in front of store fronts for loading and unloading of suitcases, and folks running in and out of the coffee shop/bakery.

  • There is plenty of street parking adjacent to the building in this neighborhood, it is free.

How do you get to Galveston Island from Houston Airports?

  • Galveston, Texas is located 50 miles from Houston.

So, whether you fly into George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) or William P. Hobby (HOU) traveling between the two destinations requires a bit of planning before you arrive.

  • There are three main shuttle companies that transfer cruise passengers from the IAH and HOU airports to Galveston Island and back again.

-- The Galveston Express costs $35 for the one-way trip from IAH to the Port of Galveston and $70 to $75 for the roundtrip. From the Hobby airport to the Port of Galveston the trip is $30 one-way and $60 to $65 for the roundtrip. The Galveston Express also gives a $5 discount to seniors and children purchasing roundtrip tickets.

-- Despite the name, Galveston Limousine does offer shuttle services between the airports and the port and even has the cheapest rates of all the companies in this roundup. A trip with Galveston Limousine costs $30 one-way and $50 for the roundtrip between IAH and the Port of Galveston when booked online. Between Hobby and the Port of Galveston, the shuttle is $25 one-way and $40 for the roundtrip per person.

-- Island Breeze Shuttle costs $105 per couple for the one-way trip from IAH to the Port of Galveston and $190 for the round trip, coming in at almost double the price of the Galveston Limousine shuttle service. From Hobby, the price is $85 one-way and $150 for the roundtrip for two.

  • Private Transport from Houston to the Port of Galveston

-- If shuttles aren’t really your thing, you can also choose private transport to the Port of Galveston with taxis, rental cars, or ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of all three options below:

    • Taxis from IAH and HOU to the Port of Galveston :

-- TaxiFareFinder estimates the one-way trip between IAH and the Port of Galveston will run you $190. For four people, this comes out to about $100 per person for the round trip – which is double the price of the cheapest shuttle option but similar to the most expensive one. From the Hobby airport, the TaxiFareFinder estimates the trip will cost about $115 to reach the Port of Galveston.

    • Ridesharing Apps :

-- Ridesharing with companies like Uber and Lyft is much cheaper than the taxi services in Houston. From IAH to the Port of Galveston, an Uber will only cost about $60 and can fit up to four people. For groups of two, that makes an Uber about the same price as the cheapest shuttle service and for groups of four, it’s significantly cheaper – all while being more convenient as well. From the Hobby airport, an Uber to the Port of Galveston is even more budget-friendly at only $40 per ride.

  • Rental Cars :

-- If you’re planning to travel around Texas before your cruise or to stay in Galveston for a few days before you set sail, you may want to rent a car. Like any major airport, there are plenty of car rental companies to choose from at IAH.

-- Rental car prices vary based on the car type, length of rental, your age, your insurance, the company you choose, and about a million other things, so call multiple companies to get quotes before you choose. And, remember that if you plan to keep your car for the duration of your cruise, you’ll need to factor long-term parking fees into your transportation budget as well.

  • We are an over 21+ property by choice, to protect those adults who want to do the right thing, be able to relax on vacation without underage folks around, and to keep out underage minors who should not be attempting to take advantage the system or those adults trying to have a good time on vacation.

  • No Smoking Policy: Absolutely no smoking in our indoor rental accommodations.

  • Dog Policy: We love pictures of your dogs. But, unfortunately we are a landlocked property and have no yard/grass. There are no parks nearby, only pavement. The downside to an urban property, so have no capacity for dogs/pets. If you need to travel with dogs/pets recommend you find accommodations better suited for your four legged friends. Registered service dogs – we are inclusive for participation in events/retreats on property. Please plan accordingly so your service animal is not stressed by the environment. Cowboy Matt and Mr Texas, LLC requires that all guests sign a Release of Liability form (Hold Harmless) and abide by the Rules (Ie code of conduct) while on property. • Guest Policy: This is private home and vacation rental. We do not allow visitors. We don’t allow folks to just come in and look around. Everyone here needs to be 21+ ID checked, sign a waiver, join a club, attend an event or retreat.

Nudity: Defining who we are and what were not…

  • We are not a nudist colony/ not a clothing optional resort/ not a bathhouse.

  • We have to protect our neighbors and community. Most of the lower level of the building, is open to the general public. We have a community center, coffee house, gym, bakery, cooking school.

  • Awareness of Other People: Wandering around naked is not acceptable, please cover up with a towel and/or appropriate clothing that covers the genitals.

  • Whether it’s the indoor residential space but especially inside the commercial part of the building, where food is being prepared, in the common areas, you cannot be seen naked outdoors from another property, keep your blinds shut, etc. You have been warned, don’t do it! We have zero tolerance for that, if you do it in front of a minor/child that is a serious offense. Management reserves the right to remove anyone from the property for violating this and banning them.

Consent/Nudity in designated areas :

  • We are a Vacation Rental / Retreat center, with a lot of privacy for our guests. The outdoor lower courtyard, (where the hottub is located) is very private, 8ft fencing separates us from our neighbors. The upper roof deck with 6ft fence along the perimeter of building, and thoughtful construction of cabana walls provides privacy on the sun deck. So we have created a little oasis of privacy in the center of a fishbowl island.

  • For many in the LGBTQ+ and ally/questioning community that level of privacy is sacred, safe space for them to explore and be themselves. Please respect others around you, abide by the code of conduct, no always means no, refer to specific retreat/event for more details on this issue. When you arrive onsite for your first vacation stay/ retreat /event, if you need further clarification, staff/volunteers can take you on a tour of the place.
